If you have a pool in Cape Coral, you need a safety barrier around it, and a fence is the most common way to provide one. We build pool fences in aluminum, vinyl and removable mesh, with gates that open away from the pool and close and latch by themselves, and we file the city's pool-barrier fence permit with the hinge and latch specifications it asks for.
What Florida law asks of a pool barrier
Florida Statute 515.29 and the Florida Building Code set the details. The main ones:
- The barrier is at least 48 inches tall, measured on the outside.
- The gap under it is no more than 2 inches, and no opening anywhere lets a 4-inch sphere through.
- Where the horizontal rails are less than 45 inches apart, they sit on the pool side and the pickets are no more than 1¾ inches apart, so a child can't use the rails as a ladder.
- Gates open outward, away from the pool, and are self-closing and self-latching. The latch release goes on the pool side unless it is at least 54 inches above the bottom of the gate.
- Nothing permanent, like an equipment pad or a planter, sits where a child could climb it to get over.
Cape Coral's own pool rules
The city requires every residential pool, spa or hot tub to be enclosed by a fence or a screen enclosure, either around the pool area or the whole rear yard, with a fence at least 4 feet tall. It has to be in place before the pool is filled past 24 inches and before final inspection. On a waterfront lot, the pool fence runs to the water side of the seawall cap and no farther; we don't assume the canal counts as part of the barrier.
After a hurricane, the rules don't pause. If the barrier is damaged, the city expects a temporary mesh barrier at least 4 feet tall within 10 days, which can stay up to 90 days while the permanent fence is repaired. We install temporary barriers and then rebuild the fence.
Choosing the material
Aluminum is our most common pool fence: pool-code picket spacing, no rust, and an open look that doesn't hide the water. Vinyl works where the pool fence also needs to give privacy. Removable mesh, made to ASTM F2286 and set in sleeves cored into the deck, suits families who want the barrier while the children are small and the option to lift it out later. It has to stand at least 20 inches from the water's edge.
Pool fence prices
| Job | Typical price | What it covers |

| Aluminum pool-code, 4 ft | $35–$55 per ft | Picket spacing and rails set out for Florida's barrier rules |
| Removable mesh pool fence | $15–$30 per ft | ASTM F2286 mesh, sleeves cored into the deck |
| Vinyl picket, 4 ft | $28–$40 per ft | Spaced pickets for side yards and around gardens |
| Walk gate | $300–$700 each | Single swing gate; vinyl and aluminum toward the top |
About these prices: Pool barrier prices vary with the gates and the deck work as much as the footage, so these Southwest Florida ranges for 2026 are a guide only. We write up your exact price once we've measured the pool area.
