Fence questions we hear most

Do I need a permit to build a fence in Cape Coral?

Yes. The City of Cape Coral requires a permit for every fence, whatever the height, and the residential fee on the city's 2026 schedule is $107. We prepare the site plan and the burrowing owl affidavit and submit it for you as part of the job. The permit guide covers heights and the waterfront rules.

How much does a fence cost?

It depends on the material, the length, the height and how many gates. A 6-foot vinyl privacy fence typically runs $35 to $55 a foot installed in Cape Coral. We measure on site for free and give you a written price; the price guide lists every fence type.

What fence works best on a canal lot?

Most waterfront owners go with open-style aluminum, which keeps the view and handles salt air. Close to the seawall the city limits the solid part of a fence to three feet, and anything above that has to be at least 75% open, so we confirm what's allowed on your lot before quoting.

Does my pool need a fence?

Florida law requires residential pools to have an approved safety barrier. A fence at least 48 inches tall, with gates that open away from the pool and close and latch on their own, is the most common way to meet it. On a waterfront yard in Cape Coral the pool fence runs to the seawall cap.

How long does installation take?

Once the permit is approved and materials are in, most residential fences go up in one to three days.

Can you fix a fence damaged in a storm?

Yes. We repair or rebuild damaged sections and can document the damage for your insurance claim. If the fence was your pool barrier, the city expects a temporary barrier within 10 days, and we can put one up while the repair is scheduled.
