Cape Coral Fence Pros installs and repairs fences throughout Fort Myers. We cross the Caloosahatchee every week by the Cape Coral and Midpoint bridges, and we know the City of Fort Myers runs its own fence rules, different from the Cape's. A 6-foot vinyl privacy fence here typically costs $35 to $55 a foot installed.
Fort Myers has its own fence code
Fort Myers is the Lee County seat and a city in its own right, so a fence inside its limits answers to the Fort Myers land development code, not Cape Coral's. The points that matter most for homeowners:
- A fence permit application goes to the city before work starts.
- Residential fences top out at 6 feet.
- Chain link isn't allowed in front yards, or on the street side of a corner lot, and no slats or fabric may be added to chain link.
- A front-yard picket fence can be up to 42 inches if it's at least half open, which Cape Coral doesn't allow at all.
- Near intersections, a fence in the sight area must be 70% open between 2 and 9 feet.
- On waterfront lots, chain link may run to the seawall and up to 3 feet beyond it.
Some addresses with a Fort Myers mailing address sit outside the city in unincorporated Lee County, where the county's code applies instead. We check which one covers your lot before we draw anything.
Older neighborhoods, older fences
Fort Myers grew up along the river long before Cape Coral was dredged, and plenty of its streets have mature trees, older wood fences and narrow side yards. A lot of our work here is replacement: an old stockade fence with rotted posts, chain link bent by a fallen limb, a gate that hasn't latched in years. Where roots crowd the fence line, we move posts rather than cut major roots, and we'll suggest aluminum or shadowbox wood where a solid wall would choke a garden.
Down by the river, near the Edison and Ford Winter Estates and the downtown riverfront, homes face the same salt air and storms as the Cape, so we use the same coated hardware and deep, concrete-set posts.
Front-yard fences in Fort Myers
Because Fort Myers allows a low, open picket fence in the front yard, it's a popular finishing touch on older bungalows. We build them in white vinyl or painted wood at or under 42 inches with the spacing the code requires, matched to a taller privacy fence around the back.
What it costs
Prices in Fort Myers line up with the Cape: roughly $35 to $55 a foot for 6-foot vinyl privacy, $30 to $45 for 4-foot aluminum, $28 to $45 for wood privacy and $12 to $20 for galvanized chain link, plus gates. The Fort Myers permit fee is set by the city and listed on your quote. See the full price guide for every fence type.
About these prices: The Fort Myers prices on this page are 2026 estimates drawn from Southwest Florida installers, and the city's permit fee is extra. We hand you a written figure for your own yard after the measure.
