A fence rarely fails all at once. A post leans after a wet summer, a gate starts dragging, a section comes down in a squall. We repair vinyl, aluminum, wood and chain link fences whoever built them, rebuild storm-damaged runs, and replace fences that have reached the end. A small repair usually costs $100 to $300 and a standard one $300 to $900.
The repairs we see most
- Leaning posts. Usually a post that was set shallow or without enough concrete in sandy ground. We dig it out, reset it in fresh concrete and plumb the panels either side.
- Broken or blown-out panels. Vinyl panels that popped out of their posts, cracked pickets, missing boards. We match the material where it's still made.
- Sagging gates. Re-hung, braced and re-latched; see gates.
- Rotted wood. Posts and bottom rails replaced; boards re-fastened with coated screws.
- Bent chain link. Top rail and fabric replaced after a fallen limb or a vehicle.
Storm damage repair
Hurricane Ian did major damage across Cape Coral in September 2022, and every storm season brings down fences somewhere in the city. After a storm, we make damaged sections safe, then rebuild them properly rather than just propping them up. We photograph the damage and write up an itemized estimate you can send to your insurer.
If the damaged fence was your pool barrier, act quickly. Cape Coral's code expects a temporary safety barrier at least 4 feet tall around the pool within 10 days of the damage, and it may stay up to 90 days while the fence is fixed. We can put temporary mesh up first and schedule the permanent repair.
Fence replacement
When posts are rotting along the whole run, panels are brittle, or more of the fence is patched than original, replacing it costs less over time than repairing it again. We tear out the old fence, haul it away, and build the new one on the same line, often in a different material. The city's repair-and-replace permit covers rebuilding a previously permitted fence in its original position, and it allows a change of material; a fence that was never permitted, or one moving to a new line, goes through as a new fence.
Repair or replace?
As a rule of thumb, if more than about a third of the fence needs work, or the posts themselves are failing along the run, we'll show you both prices side by side. A fence under ten years old with one bad section is almost always worth repairing.
Repair prices
| Job | Typical price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Small repair | $100–$300 per job | A hinge, a latch, a loose rail or a picket or two |
| Standard repair | $300–$900 per job | A panel or section plus one or two posts reset in concrete |
| Major repair | $900–$2,500 per job | Several sections rebuilt, often after a storm |
| Gate re-hang or adjustment | $100–$300 per gate | Sagging or dragging gates squared up and re-latched |
| Old fence removal | $4–$10 per ft | Tear-out and haul-away, quoted with the new fence |
About these prices: Repair prices are the hardest to pin down before we see the fence, so these national and Florida figures are only a guide. After a look, or sometimes from good photos, we give you a written price for the repair and, where it makes sense, for replacement too.
